Pollen degeneration in male - sterile melon (Cucumis melo)

Abstract

|
|
This study was carried out to elucidate the male-sterile mechanism induced by ms-2 gene available for commercial hybrid seed production. Histological observation was done on the anthers of male-fertile and sterile plants at different developmental stages, and indicated that the male sterility by ms-2 gene was from earlier degeneration of tapetum tissue, and the first causal symptom was begun at dyad stage.
